I did a talk last night on LinkedIn for a women’s network group and one of the questions that came up was whether I thought you should connect with your competition.
This has been raised many times before at talks and workshops I’ve done and it always strikes me as an interesting question.
I certainly always connect with my competition. In fact, I don’t really view them as competition and more industry peers, people I can work on with projects and collaborate with. So, why wouldn’t I connect?
Further to this, I have no fear of competition. To fear the competition is to worry that they’re doing things better than you. So, the key is to make sure that you’re always doing things better than them! If you focus your energies more on doing things better than the competition, rather than worrying about whether to connect with them or not, you’ll see much more business success.
Let me know what you think! Do you connect with your competition on social media or keep a wide berth?
